7 Healthy Foods to Dangerous If overdoses.


There are some foods that should not be consumed in amounts that are too much. For example, foods that contain lots of fat and cholesterol would not be consumed excessively. I wonder what kind of healthy food that should not be consumed in excess?


Here are 7 kinds of healthy foods that should not be consumed in excess or an overdose, as quoted from MyHealthNewsDaily, among others:


1. Nutmeg




Nutmeg is a spice that is practical and safe to make the drink more palatable. However, spices are consumed in excessive amounts because the price is very affordable can be a hallucinogenic agent, or it can cause hallucinations.


Unpleasant side effects usually appear 3-8 hours after consumption. Side effects can include anxiety, and fear. According to case reports published in the Emergency Medicine Journal 2005, some people may also experience acute psychotic episodes, detachment from reality, and visual hallucinations.


Nutmeg powder even in doses as high as 20-80 grams, is rarely lethal. There are only two reports of fatal overdoses enough nutmeg in the medical literature. Fatal cases have involved an adult aged 55 years and reported in the journal Forensic Science International in 2001.


Miristisin toxicology tests found traces of (a compound found in nutmeg essential oil) and flunitrazepam (a powerful sedative) in the blood of victims. Death appears to be related to the combined toxic effects of both substances.


2. Water


Water intoxication occurs when a person drinks so that the water dilutes the concentration of sodium in the blood, thereby creating an electrolyte imbalance. Water intoxication, known as hyponatremia.


An article in the New England Journal of Medicine found that, 13 percent of the 488 runners in the 2002 Boston Marathon develop hyponatremia from drinking too much water. An unusual case of fatal poisoning of water and place in 2007 when a California woman reportedly drank too much water during a contest at radio station.


3. Carambola


Star fruit poisoning was first described in 1980 in Malaysia. Leatherback was found to have effects on the central nervous system depression. Uniquely shaped fruit pose very little risk to healthy people when eaten in normal amounts. However, acute renal failure have been reported in people with a history of kidney disease.


In a 2006 case reports have been published in the Journal of Nephrology, patients with chronic kidney disease develop adverse reactions after eating star fruit. Star fruit can cause rapid deterioration in kidney function and permanent kidney damage.


Common symptoms include hiccups for star fruit intoxication (the most common symptom, especially in mild poisoning), vomiting, weakness, insomnia, decreased consciousness, seizures and hypotension. People with a history of kidney disease should avoid star fruit juice containing acid and rjus diluted in large quantities, especially on an empty stomach.


4. Coffee


Although some people say that it would cease to function properly without a cup of coffee, but you should not consume too much coffee. Should not consume more coffee than 500-600 mg of caffeine a day.


Obvious side effects can occur if you eat more than 600-900 mg of caffeine a day. Side effects may include, insomnia, anxiety, nausea, irregular heartbeat, tremor, anxiety and headaches. In fact, too much caffeine can be fatal.


According to a case published by a Swedish doctor in the 2010 issue of Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, a woman 21 years mngalami heart attack shortly after consumption of about 10,000 mg of caffeine.


5. Kombucha tea


Kombucha tea is a fermented sweet black tea. This tea can be purchased at health food stores or made at home with the help of fungi, the drink is known to have increased immunity. But there is very little scientific evidence available in current literature.

6. Tuna sushi


Eating raw tuna too much can increase the intake of mercury. In the tuna fish can accumulate methyl mercury in fish muscle as eating smaller fish in the sea.


It's hard to describe the levels of mercury in sushi pieces, because it can vary depending on the size and type of fish. This makes it difficult to set a definitive limit on the consumption of sushi.


According to the research that has been published in the journal Biology Letters stating that, tuna sushi from restaurants tend to have higher mercury levels than tuna from the supermarket.


Mercury can cause severe neurological problems, so that pregnant women and small children are advised by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency to avoid eating too much tuna.


7. Carrots


Carrots are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber are good for health. But eating too many carrots can take too much beta carotene. Beta carotene is the molecule that is responsible for the bright orange color of carrots and the precursor of vitamin A. This can lead to excess blood carotene which can discolor the skin.


Known as carotenemia, this condition occurs because carotenoids are fat-soluble molecules. Excessive amounts tend to accumulate in the outer layer of skin, so skin yellow or orange, especially on the palms, soles of the feet, knees and nose area. However, the condition carotenemia most harmless and often reversible.
