Exercise not only makes a person have a healthy body and strong, but also can make people look more happy or not easily stressed. What causes it?
National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in England said that exercise can enhance brain serotonin function in humans, and this is the chemical serotonin in the brain that helps move the messages along the nervous system.
This neurotransmitter perform many functions including regulating mood, appetite and sleep or wake cycles. About 75 percent of the chemical compound is located in the intestinal cells and the remaining neurons in the brain.
If serotonin levels are increased, then the mood will be better and the risk of depression and stress to be smaller, as quoted from Livestrong, Thursday (06/21/2012).
The study, published in Neuropsychopharmacology reveals that regular exercise can increase levels of tryptophan in the brain, which is an amino acid that is used to produce serotonin.
Even so, researchers have not clearly understand the mechanism as to what happened. But clearly it was found that aerobic exercise such as is known to improve mood by increasing the number of serotonin.
Known for some exercise or sport is most effective in increasing the synthesis of serotonin in the brain, such as aerobics, walking, running, biking and swimming. Other exercises can also help such as yoga, pilates, exercise and stress management flexibility.
To increase the synthesis of serotonin in the brain required an optimal amount of exercise that is 3 hours per week or 30 minutes of exercise per day, for 30 minutes can be divided into three stages throughout the day ie every 10 minutes.
