The researchers collected data from 1986 to 2007 on 371 women and 352 men of the Cohort, northern Sweden. As many as 85 percent of women who are involved in the study had the same socioeconomic position with their partners as well as having responsibility for more than half the housework.

"Home Work is an activity that is very gender. Women tend to have a greater responsibility than men. Inequality in household chores that do not involve gender equality, is associated with psychological distress," wrote the researchers, as reported from msn.

In the study, more than 56 percent of women claimed to do more than half of the housework, while men who claim this is only 10 percent. About 14 percent of women and the remaining 9 percent of men stated that he did all the housework.

Stress due to the amount of housework women do also depends on several factors in the relationship. Researchers stated that if the inequality is also an issue in domestic relations, domestic work is usually done will feel heavier.

Most of the women in the study had a low position and salary darpiada men, which also makes it more depressed than men. The study was published on 13 June in the journal PLoS ONE.
