Doctors in North Carolina absurdly surprised, because many babies in the hospital whose blood was found to be positive for marijuana. More and more surprised as the source of contamination of its compounds is not unexpected, namely toilet soap.
A hospital in North Carolina recently reported finding high marijuana-like compounds in the baby's urine test results. This finding is surprising because there may not smoke marijuana in the hospital, let alone her own baby who smoke.
Dr. Catherine Hammett-Stabler along Chapel Hill University of North Carolina and then browse through the case. All things being suspicious traced, including the possibility of urine contamination on the hands of adults who come into contact with the baby's skin.
The scientists also examined a sample of urine babies in a variety of conditions, based on observations in the wards of care. Urine samples are then compared in the laboratory, and then revealing the source of contamination of marijuana.
"We were very surprised to know that the cause is soap," said Dr. Hammett-Stabler as quoted by ABC News, Thursday (12/21/2012).
There are some soap in the study were shown to lead to urine-contaminated infant marijuana-like compounds. Some of them are artificial Bedtime Bath Johnson & Johnson, Baby Nightime-made bath and Aveeno Baby CVS Wash and Shampoo.
The soaps containing compounds polyquarternium-11 and cocamidopropyl betaine, which can be absorbed by the blood and affect the results of urine tests. Urine-tainted infant showed a trace compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or the active compound in marijuana.
In cannabis, THC is the active compound that causes smokers experience the effects of hallucinations and euphoria or a sense of overwhelming love. These compounds are believed to be also responsible for the effects of addiction, which makes marijuana smokers are addicted.
