In Australia, children from the age of three years will undergo kesehatqan soul, as part of the federal government's latest efforts.
Tests were conducted to determine whether the behavior such as sleeping with the lights on, shy attitude that is too extreme mischief or other, is a symptom of psychological disorder.
Program called Healthy Kids Check (Test Children's Health), will begin July 1, and was conducted by general practitioners, who will then refer children who are considered problematic to psychologists or pediatricians.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald website, this program will apply to about 27,000 children in Australia. The Government estimates that they will get extra help, but some doctors worry they will be misdiagnosed as having a mental illness.
Although this effort is to prevent mental illness, about 50 percent stems from childhood, Australian Medical Association (AMA) and several other health experts worry the kids will get the diagnosis wrong or have a drug that is not necessary.
"We must be careful not to stamp too much for the actual normal behavior, and this is important for the children." AMA President, Steve Hambleton.
"There are children who need assistance to get into kindergarten (kindergarten) normal. Usually because it is in connection with the financing, we are often too quick to label such as autism. Indeed there is a need but we do not want to give the stamp is not normal in children who are actually normal, "he said.
These concerns ignored by Frank Oberklaid from Children's Hospital in Melbourne, which was given the task of designing the mental health test kits.
"Some people worry we will provide psychiatric label for children, and give them medicine. That's not our goal. Many parents are faced with their child's behavior that cause stress. Mental health test will try to see, where the behavior will sustainable so that early intervention can be done, "said Frank Oberklaid.
This test is not something which is mandatory for every child, and in Australia is part of a routine medical examination that includes hearing, vision and allergies. Previously done for children aged 4 years, but now brought forward more quickly.
According to Frank Oberklaid, behavior that might be problematic is aggression, difficulty holding back, or difficult to interact with other children.
"We will also look at problems that do not appear to the outside. Children may also feel anxiety. Children who live in fear, or very shy, or have to sleep with the lights on, or do not want to sleep alone. We will record the behavior that concerns parents , and gives advice on what to do for parents. When will the behavior disappeared so good. But if not, this behavior has been detected from the beginning. " Oberklaid said.
